About
Rue Turner is a British painter working in the traditional manner, producing oil paintings on hand-stretched canvas and panel. All materials are made in the studio: size, gesso, varnish, painting mediums, and frames. The approach draws on the craft practices of the nineteenth century, when the preparation of materials was considered inseparable from the act of painting itself.

The work is primarily concerned with revealing the feeling of the subject, and to learn what it is to experience the world.
Through many years mountaineering and rock climbing, Turner developed a strong connection with the natural world, which deeply influences his art. Currently living in south west London, Turner draws inspiration from the beauty of the city's Royal Parks, often painting scenes from Richmond Park or Bushy Park. He also spends time in Scotland and enjoys capturing the serenity of its countryside.
Turner's work is influenced, too, by the Hague School of artists from the Netherlands, whose approach to realism and light has helped shape his technique. His paintings are a testament to his diverse experiences and the landscapes that have left an indelible mark on him and his creative work.
Turner is Chair of Richmond Art Society and founder of the Richmond Art Prize.
